BOISE ANNOUNCES COMPLETED EXPANSION OF BCI® JOIST, VERSA-STUD® AND VERSA-LAM® MANUFACTURING CAPACITY

[Source: Boise Press Release, www.bc.com, 2007]

Boise Engineered Wood Products has announced the completion of major expansions of its engineered wood products manufacturing plants begun in 2005. To meet increasing demand, Boise has virtually doubled the capacity at its huge Alexandria, Louisiana, plant and significantly increased its White City, Oregon, plant capacity. With the expansions, both plants are operating at greatly expanded production levels.

“We believe we owe it to our distributors and dealers, and the homebuilders who buy from them, to be able to supply product on a reliable, ongoing basis,” said Denny Huston, Boise Engineered Wood Products sales & marketing manager. “Fortunately, at Boise we continue to experience the kind of growth that enables us to regularly increase production capacity,” he said. “Our Louisiana and Oregon plants were already the two largest LVL & I-joist manufacturing plants in the world, and now they have the capacity to supply substantially more product,” said Huston.

Boise manufactures to inventory, rather than to order, so can often supply product in a shorter time frame than competitors. As this is written, Boise has nearly $20 million in inventory on the ground ready to ship from the giant Alexandria facility alone and millions more on the ground at White City, Oregon and other plants.

Both the Louisiana and Oregon plants produce the new wide-flange thousand-series BCI Joist line, with the widest family of flanges in the industry for easier installation. Both plants also produce the new Versa-Stud laminated veneer framing lumber, and the new mid-price point Versa-Lam 1.7 2650 laminated veneer lumber, which is price-competitive with laminated strand products but offers significant advantages for homebuilders.

Engineered wood products eliminate waste associated with unusable lumber by taking out the inconsistencies found in traditional solid wood products. Boise’s engineered wood products are stronger, more reliable, and when installed, use 50% less wood than ordinary lumber. Using Boise’s engineered wood products are a more efficient use of valuable natural resources. Boise engineered wood products are available in all U.S. and Canadian markets through a nationwide network of service-oriented distributors.
