BOISE INTRODUCES VERSA-LAM 1.7 2650 BEAM, HEADER AND COLUMN SERIES

[Source: Boise Engineered Wood Products New Release, 2006]

BOISE (SM) Engineered Wood Products, a division of Boise Cascade, announced the introduction of a new line of laminated veneer lumber (LVL) products, Versa-Lam® 1.7 2650, at a new lower price point for LVL-based header, beam and column products. Versa-Lam 1.7 2650 offers advantages over both dimension lumber and laminated strand lumber, including superior strength and availability in all industry-standard thicknesses from 1-1/2” up to 3-1/2”. In addition, Boise Versa-Lam products can often stand up to the rigors of the jobsite better than laminated strand lumber products.

Versa-Lam 1.7 2650 now provides a cost-effective laminated veneer lumber product with design values superior to those of dimension lumber. Because of its new price point, Versa-Lam 1.7 2650 will compete favorably with solid-sawn lumber products, but Versa-Lam 1.7 2650 has none of the deep checks, cracks, twists or other variability that can plague solid lumber headers, beams and columns. This new Versa-Lam product is designed to increase dealer and builder profitability and to better serve the product needs of Boise’s distributors, dealers and builders.

“With the new 1.7 2650 Versa-Lam we now have a product that’s fully price competitive with laminated strand products, but that offers all of the powerful advantages of an authentic laminated veneer lumber,” said Denny Huston, Boise Engineered Wood Products sales and marketing manager. “And Versa-Lam 1.7 2650 is a product that outperforms solid sawn lumber every time,” Huston added.

Many builders see laminated veneer lumber as the most perfect lumber building product for beams, headers and columns, both from a structural and a consistency standpoint. Boise’s Versa-Lam 1.7 2650 is constructed of 1/6” thick Southern Pine and Eucalyptus veneers, laminated with all grain parallel to the length of the member. Adding Eucalyptus to the mix means a very strong product relative to its weight and an excellent complement to the Southern Pine veneers also found in Versa-Lam 1.7 2650. Knots and other imperfections are dispersed in the Versa-Lam manufacturing process, resulting in higher product design values. Adhesives used in the manufacturing process are all exterior-grade adhesives which comply with ASTM D2559. Versa-Lam 1.7 2650 will be available beginning in February, 2006 through all of Boise’s 60 experienced distributors located across the United States.
