As part of its commitment to helping the Frederick County community, SSI recently rebuilt steps at one of Heartly House, Inc.'s Transitional Housing facilities and replaced windows in its Crisis Shelter. Heartly House provides comprehensive services to survivors of domestic violence, rape/sexual assault, and child abuse in Frederick County. Their services include emergency shelter and crisis intervention; a 24-hour hotline; ongoing counseling; legal advocacy; outreach; and education.
Several employees of SSI's Special Operations Division spent a week replacing the stairs, decking boards and windows. Kevin Cromwell, Manager of SSI's Special Operations Division, says that the reason why SSI became involved with Heartly House is that "they are a help program, not a welfare program. Their programs empower people to become self-sufficient." SSI looks forward to working with Heartly House on future projects.
